Mosquito Bed Nets

Mosquito bed nets protect you from biting insects while you sleep. The fine mesh fabric (usually cotton, nylon or polyester) prevents mosquitoes from getting through and biting, while still providing good ventilation. There is a wide range of mosquito bed nets to choose from.

Mosquito Nets for Beds

There are different colours, sizes and styles (including bell, box and pyramid shapes) of mosquito bed nets to fit over single and double beds, and baby mosquito nets for covering cots, playpens, prams and pushchairs. Some mosquito nets for beds are designed to make very attractive features in the bedroom while still giving protection against mosquito bites. Why not invest in a stylish mosquito net canopy?

Mosquito bed nets can either be suspended from the ceiling by single or multiple hanging points, using cords, hooks, hoops or poles (the mosquito net hanging kit is either provided with the mosquito net or is available to purchase separately), or they simply spring open and pop into shape automatically when unpacked, and are then fixed in place.

The choice of mosquito bed net will depend on whether the net is to remain permanently in the same place, or if it will be transported from place to place. Travel mosquito nets are useful when moving between places, camping, or for using outside in the garden, as there is minimal hanging/fixing to do. Or, why not try a hammock mosquito net?

If a mosquito bed net is intended for use outdoors, it is worth investing in a net with heavy skirting material to ensure it does not become loose or blow away in wet and windy conditions.

Sleeping under a mosquito bed net is a sensible precaution to take in the presence of biting insects, but it will be next to useless if it is used carelessly or hung incorrectly. Take great care in following the manufacturer's instructions when putting up a mosquito bed net to ensure mosquitoes cannot get through.

Mosquito Net Fabric

It is important to note when buying a mosquito bed net that the more holes per square inch the mosquito net fabric has, the more protection from biting insects it provides. Mosquito net fabric can range from around 150 to 500 holes per square inch. 156 holes per square inch is considered standard. A higher density of holes provides additional protection against very tiny flying insects such as midges.

You can buy lengths of mosquito net fabric to make your own mosquito bed net or use it for repairs.

Mosquito bed nets are often treated with permethrin insecticide to increase their effectiveness, but they may need to be re-treated regularly. Some suppliers offer a free insecticide re-impregnation service. Do-it-yourself mosquito net treatment kits are also available.
